Those are the nicest things I can find to say about it. One star for the appealing scenery, and one star because the game worked fine. If you’re like me and you're excited to see a new Nancy Drew game, I hate to burst your bubble… but I really wouldn’t bother with this one. Here’s hoping that this isn’t indicative of the way the franchise is heading. I was disappointed enough that I almost didn’t bother to finish and that speaks pretty poorly of a $20 game.

The lack of coherent narrative made the game hard to navigate, leaving me never entirely sure what I was supposed to be doing next, and while trial and error got me through it wasn’t really worth the effort. Also missing is the creepiness that makes some of the other games so enjoyable (line Shadow at the Water’s Edge or Thornton Hall). Depending on where you place your cursor, you can move left, right, forward, and backward the cursor changes to let you know where you’re headed. You play this completely with a mouse, making it perfect for the gamer with a physical disability.

The thin plot elements don’t fit together to make a coherent story in fact, there is almost no mystery. The Shattered Medallion is a simple point-and-click adventure. Sadly, this is the worst Nancy Drew game I’ve played (and I’ve played all the ones available for Windows).
